What a new septic system includes
- A septic tank sized for the number of bedrooms
- A leach field, also called a drain field or soil treatment area
- The pipe from the house to the tank and from the tank to the field
- A pump and controls, when the lot needs a pressure-dosed or engineered system
- Excavation, backfill and final grading
We visit your site and bid the job. A licensed septic installer does the work and holds the contract and the county permit.
Which type of system your lot needs
You do not get to pick the cheapest type. The soil and the lot decide.
- Conventional gravity system. The simplest and usually the least expensive. It needs soil that drains well and enough depth above rock and groundwater.
- Pressure-dosed system. A pump spreads the water evenly across the field. Common on slow clay soil and on sloped lots.
- Mound system. The field is built up above the natural ground. Used where rock or groundwater is shallow.
- Engineered system with a treatment unit. Cleans the water further before it reaches the soil. Used on the hardest lots, often in the mountains.
How an installation goes
- Call or text. Tell us the address, the number of bedrooms and whether it is a new build or a replacement.
- Site visit. We look at the lot, the slope, the access and where a tank and field can go.
- Soil evaluation and design. The soil on your lot is tested and the system is designed to match it.
- Written price. You get the price in writing. Have another written quote for the same job? Show it to us and ours will be lower.
- Permit, install and inspection. A licensed septic installer pulls the county permit, builds the system and has it inspected before it is covered.

What it costs
Most installs start around $15,000. The final price comes after a site visit, because soil, system type, home size and access set it. The county permit, soil test and design are extra and quoted separately, so your total may vary.
